BAWAG P.S.K. Contemporary

BAWAG P.S.K. Contemporary is a space for contemporary art and its concerns.

BAWAG P.S.K. Contemporary was founded in 1974 as an exhibition space of what at the time was the union-owned Bank für Arbeit und Wirtschaft (Bank for Labor and Business). From the beginning it has taken a proactive position within the Austrian art scene, promoting artistic positions that reflect quality, sustainability and a serious engagement with social developments since its inception. The activities of BAWAG P.S.K. Contemporary have always been open to the public free of charge.

Building on a nearly forty-year history of exhibitions, as of 2013 BAWAG P.S.K. Contemporary will expand its focus and address those questions about the future that confront art, design, architecture and urbanism in a similar way as they do science, politics, and social theory. BAWAG P.S.K.'s cultural, social and educational focus provides points of reference, as does the interdisciplinary and collaborative practice that has prevailed within socially oriented art. As an internationally oriented exhibition, communication and production space, BAWAG P.S.K. Contemporary reflects the interest in a community-based, socially conscious and communicatively open exhibition practice. The new programming at BAWAG P.S.K. Contemporary will be undertaken by a biennially alternating head of programming in consultation with an international Advisory Board.
